16 May 2012 | 5:00 pmBy: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief Tuesday's UFC on Fuel 3 main event between Dustin Poirier and "The Korean Zombie" Chan Sung Jung was an easy front runner for 2012's Fight of the Year, but odds are most of the UFC's fanbase didn't see the fight. The furiously paced action of the featherweight bout saw Jung showcasing every aspect of his MMA game against a tough to finish Poirier. After three rounds at that pace, he then finished the fight with a D'Arce choke after knocking Poirier down with a flying knee. For those that missed the event on Tuesday night, FoxSports.com posted some… -
UFC President Dana White undergoing surgery this week, missed first UFC event in 11 years
16 May 2012 | 4:05 pmBy: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief UFC President Dana White missed Tuesday's UFC on Fuel 3 event in Fairfax, Va., marking the first time since Zuffa purchased the UFC 11 years ago that he's missed an event. He head a good reason, however, as he revealed on Twitter that he'll be undergoing surgery this Wednesday in Los Angeles to treat Meniere's disease. White was recently diagnosed with the disease, which is a condition where fluid in the inner ear gets too high, affecting balance and hearing. In an interview with Kevin Iole at Yahoo! Sports, White revealed that his symptoms began… -
After UFC on Fuel 3, Donald Cerrone wants Anthony Pettis bout at UFC 150 in Denver
16 May 2012 | 2:40 pmBy: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief Donald Cerrone took five months between fights after his UFC 141 loss to Nate Diaz, and come Tuesday's UFC on Fuel 3 event it appeared to be time well spent. Cerrone was the far superior fighter to Jeremy Stephens on Tuesday night, out-classing him on the feet and making a very solid vet in Stephens look downright inept at times. Getting that win taken care of puts Cerrone back on track to make a run up the UFC's lightweight division, as he's now 5-1 in six Octagon appearances. But he's not looking to sit out long after this win, as he said after the…

Dana White's UFC On Fox Ratings Rant Against Dave Meltzer Was Too Much
16 May 2012 | 1:00 pmPromoters will always be promoters. Just look at Don King, a man who keeps smiling, spiking his crazy hair and waving mini-American flags regardless of what he's pushing. No matter what, he always focuses on the positive, regardless of what the naysayers are trying to counter with. And with boxing these days, that can be a lot. UFC president Dana White is a different breed of promoter. He isn't afraid to taunt or fire back at anyone on any subject, something that endeared himself to many as the UFC rose through the sports muck to prominence over the past seven years. Sometimes he has been… -

The Korean Zombie is the #1 contender to the UFC Featherweight title. Post-fight, Dana White… -

The Article That The UFC's Dana White Couldn't Let Go Unanswered
16 May 2012 | 11:16 amWe've covered UFC president Dana White's response to Dave Meltzer's analysis of the UFC on Fox 3 ratings and we've covered Meltzer's response to Dana, but we haven't actually covered the Wrestling Observer article that got Dana so worked up. Here are some of Meltzer's main points: He called UFC on Fox 3, "a genuine XFL caliber ratings disaster" "Males 18-34 declined from a 3.2 to a 1.6. These are not the kind of numbers that can keep you in prime time." "The show did 34% below what COPS was doing this season in the time slot." Meltzer acknowledges that a number of factors hurt the ratings…

Cowboy Cerrone Looking for a Fight in Denver
16 May 2012 | 2:03 pmDonald “Cowboy” Cerrone got back in the win column last night in a big way, putting on one of the best performances of his career by absolutely dominating Jeremy Stephens from the first bell to the last. Zombie vs. Poirier Fight-Picking Contest: The Winners!
16 May 2012 | 1:41 pm(Wear it like a champion. Or at the very least, like a #1 contender.) Though we got a wide variety of guesses in our TrauMMA/No Mas fight-picking contest, none of you guessed that the fight would go to the championship rounds, probably because you didn’t know that it was even a possibility. 16 May 2012 | 10:07 am(Brazilian boy can’t get no love? / Props: enlapelea.com) Fabio Maldonado should have learned his lesson in his fight against Kyle Kingsbury last June — if the judges refuse to count body punches as “effective damage,” you might as well just start head-hunting and grunting and hope for the best. Once again, the Brazilian light-heavyweight put on a body-shot clinic in his bout against Igor Pokrajac at last night’s UFC event, and once again he wound up with a unanimous decision loss, with one judge inexplicably handing all three rounds to the Croatian. Many observers… -

What’s next for UFC on FUEL 3 Winners?
16 May 2012 | 10:41 amLast night’s UFX on FUEL 3 looked well on its way to being a rather unmemorable night heading into the main event. Kyle Baker scores huge headkick in Sando Fight
15 May 2012 | 8:08 amIt’s hard to even know where to begin with this gem. Manny Pacquiao lashes out at President Obama for stance on gay marriage
16 May 2012 | 12:30 pmRarely do politics find a home on these pages but in the case of world-famous boxer Manny Pacquiao an exception has to be made. Not only is Pacquiao a member of Congress in his native Philippines, but he’s also addressed a number of matters in American politics over the year and even helped campaign for a Democratic Senator a few years back. This time around Pacquiao has taken aim at United States President Barack Obama in light of the nation’s chief executive coming out to support gay marriage. “God only expects man and woman to be together and to be legally married, only if they so… -
Chan Sung Jung earns Submission of the Night for stoppage of Dustin Poirier
16 May 2012 | 11:15 amUFC featherweight Chan Sung Jung impressed all in attendance last night at UFC on Fuel 3, as well as those watching at home, with his relatively one-sided showing against Dustin Poirier. Apparently his effort also caught the attention of a few UFC executives as well. Jung’s D’Arce Choke finish of Poirier was named the show’s Submission of the Night and netted “The Korean Zombie” an extra $40,000 on top of his regular salary. Were that not enough, the headlining clash was awarded Fight of the Night honors as well, giving Poirier an additional $40k and driving Jung’s total take-home… -

UFC on Fuel 3 Results: Chan Sung Jung finishes Dustin Poirier in memorable main event
15 May 2012 | 5:15 pmThe UFC decided to give fans a mid-week treat to tantalize their MMA-oriented tastebuds before this weekend’s Strikeforce event in the form of UFC on Fuel 3, a show headlined by a clash between featherweight contenders Dustin Poirier and Chan Sung Jung, and delivered a delicious event in the process. “The Korean Zombie” came away with what would many consider an upset win, finishing Poirier in the fourth round to snap a five-fight winning streak. The stoppage was the latest from Jung who racked up bonus-winning finishes in his last two outings. Other notable match-ups scheduled… -
Cesar Gracie gives Nick Diaz’s side of the story after last weekend’s BJJ debacle
15 May 2012 | 3:00 pmUFC welterweight Nick Diaz is not necessarily the most eloquent individual, often cracking under the pressure of media attention similarly to the way he breaks opponents inside the Octagon. However, coach/mentor Cesar Gracie has no such problem penning a thoughtful statement laced with objectivity, not profanity. Gracie did just that last night regarding Diaz’s decision to no-show a scheduled BJJ superfight with Braulio Estima. And, while the renowned instructor certainly defended Diaz in the public plea, he also made it clear he wasn’t happy with how the 28-year old handled himself…

Mo Money, Mo Problems – Why Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal Might Wind Up Losing More Than He Gains From Bellator/TNA Deal
11 May 2012 | 4:00 pmThere’s something special about Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal winding up as potentially a champion in both professional wrestling and mixed martial arts at the same time. Being on top of two different avenues is remarkably tough; combining MMA with one that shares historical roots with MMA but lacks the sporting aspect to it will actually be harder than if he were to try another combat sport. Putting on a pro wrestling match is a difficult feat in and of itself; it’s why being successful at both at the same time might be too much for him. Alistair Overeem was the reigning K-1 World Grand…

Henderson Chats About Opponent Jon Jones
12 May 2012 | 4:54 pmDan Henderson, the next in line to fight light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, believes he holds the key to success against dominant Jones. Jones most recently fought former champion Rashad Evans and picked up a decision victory, but has smashed his way through the LHW division’s elite. Meanwhile, since losing to Jake Shields in 2010, Hendo has beaten Renato Sobral, Rafael Cavalcante, Fedor Emelianenko, and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua to earn the right to fight Jones. Speaking about the recent title fight, Hendo said Evans didn’t fight to his game plan — and Jones was… -
Bob Sapp Continues to Suffer Quick Losses
29 Feb 2012 | 5:58 pmMMA and K-1 veteran Bob Sapp recently fought Volkan Duzgun at the Vuisten van Vuur event, suffering yet another embarrassing loss in the first round. It’s not a surprise — but is still a shame — that Sapp has turned his MMA career into a sideshow, only hoping to pick up a quick paycheck.Similar Posts: None Found -
Chael to Get Anderson Silva Rematch With Win on Saturday
23 Jan 2012 | 6:00 pmFollowing a fun night of fights on FX, UFC President Dana White chatted with Ariel Helwani about a few different festivities the UFC will get to host in 2012. Of note, White said Chael Sonnen will face Anderson Silva if he’s able to get by Michael Bisping later this week. (I think that’s good, because Silva vs. Bisping is a mauling I just am not interested in seeing anytime soon.) Also, White discusses Diaz vs. Condit for the interim title — and Georges St. Pierre’s growing dislike of Diaz, as the French-Canadian champion continues to recover well from surgery. Similar… -

16 May 2012 | 10:05 amIn this short video courtesy of FuelTV.com, Ariel Helwani details a conversation he had with UFC President Dana White to clarify the top of the Featerweight division. With Jose Aldo set to face Erik Koch at UFC 149 in Canada, White had ranked Hatsu Hioki as the second-best Featherweight in the world. However, Hioki took a fight on June 22nd, and White has stated that the vastly impressive submission victory of The Korean Zombie last night showed him enough to grant Sung Jung the title shot. All Martial Artists Should Work Towards High Credit Scores
4 May 2012 | 8:25 amHigh Credit Scores Possible For Martial Artists I always believed that many of the skills we learn from martial arts training can be applied to other areas of our lives. Such skills as working hard towards certain goals is one of them. And if we apply such skills, getting high credit scores by not abusing our credit cards is certainly possible for all martial artists who are old enough to establish credit. I wrote in another blog about staying on top of your credit report and now I was able to get my actual credit score from a colleague who has access to this type of information. The… -

UFC on Fuel 3 Results: 5 Fights for Donald Cerrone to Take Next
16 May 2012 | 9:30 amIt’s important that we find an opponent for Donald Cerrone quickly. In all honesty, when you consider the fact that Cerrone has fought six times for the UFC in the last 15 months, there is a decent chance that Cowboy has already signed a contract for his next fight. All jokes aside, Cerrone is a workhorse who is coming off a one-sided beatdown of slugger Jeremy Stephens. Last night was the 14th UFC fight for Stephens, and while he has seen his fair share of defeats, no one has ever manhandled him in the manner that we just witnessed. Cerrone is back on track to make a break for the top.
